Creating High Expectations For Your Horse's Behavior

Creating High Expectations For Your Horse's Behavior

Training Tips

Today, we talked about the crucial role of high expectations in groundwork for achieving consistency in horsemanship.

In our journey together, we've explored the beauty of building respect with our equine partners through groundwork. We've laid the foundation for a strong bond, a bond built on trust and understanding. But there's something truly special about consistency, isn't there?

"The beauty of doing the respect series and doing groundwork and doing all these things is that you get a certain level of continuity."

Understanding the Significance of High Expectations

Consistency isn't just about doing the same thing over and over again. It's about setting a standard, a level of excellence that we strive to maintain in every interaction with our horses.

"Having those high expectations for your groundwork can dictate really how your ride's gonna go."

The Pitfalls of Lowered Expectations

But here's the thing: lowering your expectations is not an option. You've invested time, energy, and resources into your horsemanship journey. You owe it to yourself and your horse to maintain those high standards, no matter what.

"It's amazing to me that people will spend all their money and they'll get a wonderful horse... and the horse comes off of the trailer, and you're like, 'Hey, I don't even recognize that horse.'"

Consistency Across Environments

Your horse's behavior shouldn't depend on the environment. Whether you're in the safety of your own arena or exploring new trails, your horse should carry themselves with the same level of confidence and composure.

"Treating that horse like you expect them to be the same... with or without scary things around them."

Setting Yourself Up for Success

Success starts with a strong foundation. By setting high expectations in your groundwork, you're laying the groundwork for success in every aspect of your horsemanship journey.

"If you have that high level of expectation for that groundwork, it's really going to set you up for successful rides."

Conclusion: Embracing the Power of Expectations

So, fellow riders, I urge you to embrace the power of expectations. Uphold your standards, demand excellence, and watch as your partnership with your horse reaches new heights.

Until next time, ride on!
